Inspiration

November 19, 2007

Sometimes you can’t think of anything to write about. You can sit there, all day with a blank page, not creating anything, not really doing anything at all.

When you find yourself in a creative dead-end, stop forcing new thoughts, but don’t drop all effort. Go and find something you only half finished, and finish it off. Spell and grammar check something you wrote a while ago. Play some games.

If you keep doing something, you’ll have gained some benefit, much more than your blank sheet, and if you are lucky, you might think of something new.

If all else fails, try to think of some chores you don’t want to do. Then you can avoid them by procrastinating, and try to channel that procrastination into something useful, such as the activities described above.
