Volcano! – Personalities

I’ve begun developing the personalities, these are cards that represent the townspeople caught up in the area of the Volcano.

I’ve created fifteen ideas to work with, I’m expecting to use maybe 11 in any one game. There will be room to create more as time passes, if I feel they are needed, and if there is time to do so.

Each personality will have three attributes or characteristics which will effect how they behave during the game. The characteristics are:

  1. Willingness to move – how easily the personality can be convinced it’s a good idea to leave town.
  2. Speed of movement – when they decide to go, how quickly can they leave?
  3. Trust in science – How likely are they to trust and believe what the Scientists (the players) are telling them.

I’ve not given personalities fixed values for these characteristics, I’ve not even decided what values those characteristics should taken, I’ve only sketched basic levels for each.

  1. Old Timer – Reluctant to move, slow to move, neutral towards Scientists
  2. Hard-nosed businessman – Reluctant to move, fast to move, neutral towards Scientists
  3. Family – reluctant to move, slow to move, hostile towards scientists
  4. Politician – reluctant to move, fast to move, neutral towards scientists
  5. Disabled guy – happy to move, very slow to move, favourable towards scientists
  6. Fast-food drone – reluctant to move, slow to move, hostile towards scientists
  7. Evangelical christian – reluctant to move, fast to move, hostile towards scientists
  8. Coffee shop owner – reluctant to move, slow to move, neutral towards scientists
  9. Veteran – happy to move, fast to move, hostile towards scientists
  10. College dropout – happy to move, slow to move, favourable towards scientists
  11. Orphan – reluctant to move, very slow to move, favourable towards scientists
  12. Geek – happy to move, fast to move, favourable towards scientists
  13. Small time criminal – reluctant to move, fast to move, neutral towards scientists
  14. Young couple – happy to move, fast to move, favourable towards scientists
  15. Loner – happy to move, slow to move,  hostile towards scientists

Next I’m going to think about the board, and hopefully start filling in some meaning for the values of these characteristics.
